News to Share/The "story"

Oy! So it always seems like I am catching up on my blogging but this time I actually have something to talk about instead of just what I (and my cat) have been up to.

Most of you know that I've been dating my boo for almost 2.5 years but you might not know that I was getting ready to move in with him (2 weeks ago was the date, actually). I was kind of annoyed with him because he wasn't working very hard to clean out the closet that I was going to have to use or get ready for the big move. Well, I found out why on July 21.

We had a pretty busy weekend planned (a nice little Saturday...) with his godson's 3rd birthday and an anniversary party for his brother and sister-in-law. He asked me to come over on Saturday by 11 so we could run a bunch of errands and get supplies for the parties--no biggie, we always run errands on the weekends. I was excited because we were going to Sam's, which is always fun becasue the people watching is just FANTASTIC! And we'd get icee's.

Kev also mentioned that we had to drop off some papers at a client's house, which also didnt surprise me because this particular client had actually given him keys to his house so he could be there for the house inspection because the client couldnt be there. I'm used to his clients being demanding so it really wasn't out of the ordinary. So he thought we should pick up some flowers to leave at the client's house because they just bought it. Sure, no problem.

After we finished up at Sam's we headed to the client's house. We walked in and I headed to the kitchen to start arranging the flowers. I wanted them to be perfect because they were for a VIP client so I kept fiddling with them. I asked Kevin if they looked ok and he said yes but told me to come look at them from his angle to see if there were any empty spots.

So I went over to investigate and had a bag of trash and a pair of scissors in my hands while I was looking and messing with the flowers. Kevin was telling me they looked great and that he loved me all that jazz and literally the next thing I knew he was down on one knee holding out a ring and asking me to marry him!

I immediately started crying and really couldnt believe what was happening. Of course I said yes and gave him a big hug. Then, in my state of shock and emotion I said "Why are we in your client's kitchen?!" (it's a logical inquiry, right?)

Kevin's replied with, "Because it's not his kitchen. It's ours. This is our house!"

Um... I'm not even kidding you...I couldn't make this up. Pretty sure I started hyperventilating and crying even more. I was in shock.

Basically, Kevin acknowledged that the house he currently lives in is his house and that, even though he loves it and has put a lot of work into it, that the new house was OURS and was for OUR future. A-Maz-Ing! Who does that? My boo, that's who!

After I calmed down a little bit and we started walking around OUR house he said he had another suprise for me in the basement. I don't know if I could handle anything else but I followed him downstairs. What he showed me next was pretty fantastic.... the house was built with...wait for it.... A CAT DOOR! No shit! This house was meant to be ours. The door goes from the finished side of the basement to an unfinished area where my cat's litter box will go.

What makes this little story even better is the fact that he's had the ring and house since MAY! And his house has been on the market since MAY. If I was heading over to his house, he would take the sign out of his yard and hide it. Sneaky! And a great secret keeper!!

So.... that was my July....how was yours?

Here is the ring! It's gorgeous---but this picture doesnt do it justice at all! He did a great job picking it out--not that I had any doubts about his jewelry-picking abilities!

This one is a little better :) It's very sparkly!

This is OUR house... it's amazing!

And this is the cat door :)

Accident Prone?

I dont know what the heck is going on with me this week... I went to work out on Monday and ended up inadvertantly doing something to mess up my shoulder...at least I'm pretty sure it was the workout. I went to visit my friends the Ford's after working out and picked up their new baby...after that I started noticing the pain in my shoulder. Yeah, their baby isnt that big. So, no clue what I did to it but I cant raise my arm above shoulder level and there's constant dull throbbing going on with it...feels like of like it needs to be popped or something.

Then, I looked down at my toe the other day and it looked REALLY dirty, which was odd because I was just getting out of the shower. Somehow I blocked it out of my mind that I had dropped my bottle of body wash on it the day before. It hurt like hell but I obviously forgot about it pretty quickly. So it looks like I'm walking around with a dirty toe...I took the picture a day too late--you could really see the bruises well the day before. I also have random bruises all over. Perhaps I fell down a flight of stairs and don't remember it?

Today I also noticed that my right eye is twitching like crazy and I have no idea why. I'm not especially tired so maybe its stress? I should probably just go home and go to bed before I injure myself any further.

On another note... here's what I've been up to at work today. We're preparing for our annual Donor BBQ and wanted to make sure our students had an opportunity to say thank you to our donors so I made a big ass banner fo them to sign as they came in for their monthly freebie:

Well, Hello!

Once again, it's been a loooong time since I've blogged. I really do need to get on it. So, I filled out one of those oh-so-awesome questionnaires (thank you, Sarah!) and have included a pictorial of what my life has been like the past few months! Enjoy!

1. My friends had a baby girl! Welcome, Juneau!
2. I made said friends some Mexican Lasagna
3. I finally broke down and bought a Clarisonic Mia...my face hasn't been the same since!
4. Took a trip to Austin and wanted to buy several pairs of these boots
5. San Antionio from the top of the Tower of the Americas...360 degree views of the city
6. Has LOTS of drinks in Texas! This one is a Prickly Pear Margarita
7. Ran my 2nd 5k this year (ran the first in March)
8. The run was on the KU campus...evil hill! Rock Chalk!
9. Became addicted to Trader Joe's...officially.

And here are some lovely tidbits of information:

List 20 random facts about yourself.

Describe 3 legitimate fears you have and explain how they became fears.

--Monkeys—I just absolutely despise them. Too many stories of them mauling people and ripping their faces off. I especially despise the ones dressed up in human clothing.

--Failure—I’ve always been afraid of failing or letting someone down.

--Losing my parents (death…not losing them at the mall or something)—I don’t like thinking about it, and when I do I start to have a mini-panic attack. Let’s move on.

Describe your relationship with your parents.

Good, for the most part. My dad and I butt heads, but that’s because we’re both stubborn. And I found out that I can no longer go on road trips with my mom because we aggravate each other too much. But I do love them and I think they love me…for now  We get along much better now that I’m out of the house, graduated from college, and am gainfully employed.

List something would tell your 16 year-old self, if you could.

Uhh, how about you spend a little more time studying than you do talking to strangers online. Get your shit together so you can get some scholarships for college. Lazy ass.

What are the 5 things that make you most happy right now?

My friends (and their children and their pets)
Having a job through which I help others achieve their dreams/goals (going to college)
My cat—yep, I might just be a crazy cat lady
Being alive!
Instagram (ha!)

What is the hardest thing you have ever experienced?

Well, I’ve been through some stuff this year that probably isn’t the hardest thing I will ever go through, but it felt like it at the time. All stems from having a long-time friend just up and decide they could no longer have me in their life. Still dealing with it…but it’s getting easier.

What is your dream job, and why?
I love the job that I have, but I have been seriously contemplating a career change… still working through exactly what it is that I want to do and if it’s even feasible.

What are 5 passions you have?

Helping others
Strengthening relationships
Being creative
Finding true happiness
Becoming a better person

List 10 people who have influenced you and describe how.

Just 10? Whatever! There are far too many for me to list here. What kind of question is this!?

Describe your most embarrassing moment.

Uhh, again, too many to list. If you’re reading this you probably have some memory of something embarrassing I have done in your presence. That works for me.

Hood rat, Hood rat, Hoochie mama!

Kevin saw this news clip a loooong time ago. It made me laugh to re-discover it in my email archives. Be warned...this woman is NOT a hoochie mama, trick, tramp, slut, or whore! :)

Flashback Friday

Been awhile since I've done one of these, so here we go!

This is my first documented visit to Santa. Sorry it's blurry, I'm working on getting a copy scanned. I'm 1 year and 3 months old in this photo and I'm just about as red as my little overalls. To be fair, this Santa looks a little dead behind the eyes...like he's not really into it. Shame on him!

Ho Ho Ho!

Gobble Gobble!!

I am officially calling it a work week here in about 15 minutes--I'm off until next Monday and am really looking forward to some down time.

My mom and I are taking a little road trip to the booming metropolis of Casey, Illinois. It's about 6 hours away--so nothing too crazy.

In honor of Thanksgiving I thought I'd share some fun turkeys with you. I absolutely love hand turkeys and would totally make them if people wouldnt look at me like I'm crazy.

I guess I could also let you all know what I'm thankful for this year (and every year):
--My wonderful friends and family (my friends pretty much are my extended family)
--Good health for me and those close to me
--A good job
--A warm place to call home
--A fat, black and white cat that also helps keep me warm and entertained

Just to name a few...I'm thankful for so many things in my life, it's hard to put them all into words. I hope the same is true for you!

And now... the hand turkeys!
In case you wondered about hand turkey parts...

Some other options for your hand turkeys...
Yeah, this one is a class act.. sweet hat!

Umm, is it just me, or is this a chicken with colored feathers??

The perfect hand turkey :) Gobble Gobble!!

Have a wonderful holiday!!!

I dont have much to talk about today so I am just going to post some links to nifty things I've seen lately. It's been a hectic day--we are shooting a holiday e-card at Avila (yay!) and I am already getting pumped for the KU-UK game tonight. I'm also going to get my "hair did" tonight before I head home, grab some leftovers and watch the game.

Rock Chalk Jayhawk!!!

Oh!! By the way, this is post #100!! YAY!!!
1. Retro Headsets
Are you worried about radiation from your cell phone? No? Me neither. But, if you are and want another option, try these Retro Headsets by YUBZ. I think it's kind of silly to plug in a headset to your cell phone, but whatever floats your boat. They come in solids and some fun artsy prints. I am looking forward to the day I see someone walking down the street talking on one of these things. Isnt one of the points of cell phones that they are small and fit into a pocket or purse? Doesnt the big ass headset defeat the purpose?
2. Faux Taxidermy
You dont know how long I've been looking for a faux taxidermy rhino head! All this searching and it turns out I could have just made one.

3. Un-ugly Powerstrip
How ugly are powerstrips? They are so utilitarian and boring. Not anymore!! Check THESE out! Finally I can plug my shit into something more pleasing to the eye--available in Zebra, Leopard, Skulls, and Roses. Aww... pretty.

4. Stitchy...
I have been eyeing these things for quite a long time and have finally decided to take the plunge back into cross stitching! I dont need to pay for these kits because I'll be making up my own for some very special people in my life. Watch out, you might be on the receiving end of an awesome Alison Original!

Happy Tuesday! Go Jayhawks, and Amen for my stylist : )

Normally I don’t aim my posts at a particular individual but today I am making an exception…This post will only make sense to one person—everyone else can disregard.

Dearest Jared,

I just wanted to say thanks for a few things:

-Thank you for FINALLY meeting me last week. It’s only taken 6 years to wear down your resistance and make you stop avoiding me.

-Thank you for picking a bar with an abundance of the most annoying Raiders fans ever.

-Thank you for saying our server looked like Garth from Wayne’s World, which not only made me want to watch the movie(s), but also made me want to burst into laughter every time she came to the table. And just keep in mind that you were like 8 ounces ahead of me…And yeah, I might just be a label peeler.

-Thank you for calling me an asshole. Because of this, you will be the recipient of something very special this holiday season.

But, most of all, thanks for not being a douchebag and for a great evening! It’s always nice to reconnect with someone from your past (however sketchy it may be) that you’ve never actually met and have it not be weird. Thanks for not being a sketchy mofo, J-Mo!

Aww, aren’t I nice? There, now you can’t say I didn’t blog about you!
